Answer the same customer questions once: hours, orders, allergens

Short answer: Tally customer questions for a week, write the true answer to each, and have AI turn your notes into a clean FAQ and short saved replies. Have whoever knows the kitchen check every answer. Allergen answers must come from your recipes and labels; the FDA lists nine major food allergens. Post the FAQ on your website and Google profile.

Best for
Restaurants, cafés and shops that get the same questions every day

Updated · By the Main Street AI Brief team · Facts checked against the sources below.

Turn the 10 questions customers ask every day into one accurate FAQ and a set of saved replies, so you stop typing the same answers in DMs and on the phone.

Retail & FoodSaves: a few minutes per repeat question (rough estimate)

Who it's for

Restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops that get the same questions by phone, text, Instagram or Facebook: hours, delivery area, custom orders, parking, gluten-free options.

The situation today

  • The phone rings during the rush with 'what time do you close?' and 'do you deliver to…?' The same five DMs arrive every day.
  • Answers vary depending on who picks up, and some questions sit unanswered until the customer orders somewhere else.
  • Rough estimate: 30 minutes or more a day across calls and messages for a busy counter, and most of it is the same answers.

Time figures marked "rough estimate" are our estimates, not survey data.

The AI-assisted workflow

Step by step

  1. For one week, keep a tally by the register and in your phone notes of every question customers ask. Most shops find the same 10 to 15 at the top.
  2. Write the true answer to each in a few words. For allergens, copy from your actual recipes and supplier labels.
  3. Run the prompt below to turn your notes into a clean FAQ and short saved replies for messages.
  4. Have whoever knows the kitchen or stock best check every answer. Then post the FAQ on your website and Google Business Profile, and save the replies in your phone or messaging app.
  5. Review it whenever the menu, hours or policies change, and date it.

Copy-paste prompt

I run a [restaurant/café/shop] in [town]. Below are the questions customers ask most and my real answers.
Turn them into:
1) A website FAQ: clear question headings, answers under 50 words each, friendly and plain.
2) A short saved reply for each (under 30 words) I can paste into DMs or texts.
Rules: use only my answers. Do not add hours, prices, delivery areas, ingredients or policies I didn't give you. For anything about allergens, do not say 'safe' or 'allergen-free'; repeat my wording exactly and add: 'Please tell us about any allergy when you order.' If an answer is unclear, write [CHECK].

Example output (illustrative, not real data)

Q: Do you have gluten-free options?

A: Yes, our flourless chocolate cake and the rice bowls are made without wheat. They're prepared in a kitchen that also uses wheat flour, so we can't promise they're free of traces. Please tell us about any allergy when you order.

Saved reply: Yes, the flourless chocolate cake and rice bowls are made without wheat, in a kitchen that uses flour. Please tell us about any allergy when you order.

Optional tool

No special tool needed. Draft with any free AI chat assistant, then post the FAQ on your own website and Business Profile and save the replies in the messaging apps you already use.

Watch-outs

  • Allergens are a safety issue. AI must never decide what's in a dish. The FDA lists nine major food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, sesame); your answers must come from your recipes and labels and be checked by the person who cooks.
  • Don't promise delivery times, custom orders or prices in saved replies that you can't keep on a busy day.
  • If you later add an AI chatbot that answers customers directly, test it hard and give it only this checked FAQ. Never let it improvise allergen answers.

When not to use AI

  • Answering a specific customer's allergy or medical question by AI. Those go to a person, every time.

Quick answers

How do I stop answering the same customer questions?

Track the questions for a week, write one accurate answer to each, publish them as an FAQ on your website and Google Business Profile, and save short replies for messages.

Can AI answer allergen questions for my restaurant?

No. AI can format the answers you've checked, but it must never decide what's in a dish. Allergen answers come from your recipes and labels.
